Plugs

Power plugs and sockets – not the most adventurous topic, but definitely a practical one. After all, we all need to charge our phones, laptops, cameras, and maybe even a hair straightener. So let’s keep it short and clear:

⚡ Voltage and Frequency

  • Voltage: 230 V
  • Frequency: 50 Hz
  • That’s the standard across most of Europe.

🔌 Plug Types

You’ll most commonly find:

  • Type C (two round pins) – the famous Europlug, fits most sockets across the continent.
  • Type E and F – also two round pins but grounded (you’ll see these in Germany, France, Austria, Hungary, etc.)
    • Type F is also called Schuko.
    • Most Type C plugs fit into E and F sockets too.

🌍 What You’ll Need as a Traveler

  • If you’re coming from the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, or most of Asia, you’ll need a plug adapter.
  • Devices like phones, tablets, laptops usually work fine with just an adapter — they are dual voltage (check for “100–240V” on the charger).
  • ⚠️ Be careful with single-voltage appliances (like hairdryers or curling irons) — plugging them in without a voltage converter might fry them.

🛁 A Note About Hotels

  • Many hotels have special 110V sockets in the bathroom, usually marked for shavers only.
  • They are low-power, meant for electric razors or toothbrushes — don’t plug in high-wattage items.
  • Hotels usually have converters, but mostly they are rented to somebody, so do not relay on that.
  • Consider if one plug point is enough! (phone, digital camera, ear pods, other digital devices)

  • ✅ Check your devices for dual-voltage
  • ✅ Leave high-powered devices at home, or bring travel versions
  • ✅ Power bank = lifesaver on long days
  • ✅ Consider multi port USB gadgets
